What is this cordless chainsaw used for?

This  small pruning chainsaw is best used  for small  green limbs and pruning applications. This saw is not designed for heavy duty or fast cutting actions.

Is the chainsaw ready to use?

No, before using the chain saw the chain and bar need to be fitted to the saw, and the oil tank filled.  Prior to performing any adjustments ensure the battery has been removed from the saw to prevent any accidental starting. Assembly should take less than 5 minutes.  Additionally, you will need to charge the battery as new battery packs are shipped in a low charge condition and must be fully charged before use. It takes approximately 8 hours to fully charge a new battery and 3–5 hours once the battery has been used in the tool a few times.

What is the maximum size branch I can cut?

The 8” bar and blade will allow you to cut up to  150mm in diameter

How to I avoid  jamming?

Always cut into the compression wood first until the cut starts to close. Always make the compression cut beneath if the log or limb is suspended from one end, and on top if it is supported at both ends. Cut from the other side towards the compression cut. Make a habit of using a wedge to prevent the compression cut jamming tight on the chainsaw blade.

Some tips for application of this chainsaw:

Trimming a tree (pruning): DO NOT  operate chain saw while:

• In a tree.

• On a ladder or any other unstable surface.

• In any awkward position

Note: do not cut limbs higher than your shoulders, you may lose control of saw causing severe injury.

Trimming a tree is the process of cutting limbs from a living tree, makes sure your footing is firm, keep feet apart. Divide your weight evenly on both feet. Follow directions below to trim a tree.

Make first cut 15 centimetres from tree trunk on underside of limb, use top of guide bar to make this cut. Cut 1/3 through diameter of limb.  Move five to ten centimetres farther out on limb, make second cut from above limb. Continue cut until you cut limb off.   Make third cut as close to tree trunk as possible on underside of limb stub. Use top of guide bar to make this cut. Cut 1/3 through diameter of stub.  Make fourth cut directly above third cut. Cut down to meet third cut, this will remove limb stub.

Cutting logs:

Cutting a log resting on the two extremities first cut 1/3 of a diameter from the top. Next cut from below using the top of the bar, this will avoid pinching of the bar in wood, Avoid touching the ground with the bar.

Fall a tree:

Before felling a tree, consider carefully all conditions including the intended direction of the fall, the natural lean of the tree, surrounding trees and obstacles, the wind direction and speed.

How often do I need to sharpen the chain?

Sharpen the chain regularly to maintain optimum performance of the saw. Signs of a dull chain are:

• The sawdust becomes powder-like

• Extra force is required to execute a cut

• The cut does not track in a straight line

• Increased vibration

• Increased fuel consumption

You can purchase the 909 CSS25 85W Chainsaw Chain Sharpener to perform this task

What is the battery runtime?

The battery runtime is dependant on the material being cut.  For green  timber up to 30mm diameter, the pruning chainsaw will last up to 6 minutes. The best way to use the pruning chainsaw is to regularly trim and cut new growth instead of  infrequent and heavy cutting.

How do I obtain the best life for the battery?

Never allow the tool to completely drain the battery and come to a complete stand still before recharging. The battery should be placed on charge whenever the battery is noticeably running down or the tool no longer performs a task it previously performed. For storage, charge between 50 and 75%. Avoid allowing loose items like screws or nails etc. to be stored with battery packs as these or similar items can short battery packs and cause a fire or explosion.

Always unplug the charger when not in use and store in a dry secure place.

Avoid charging or storing your battery in temperatures below 0ºC and above 40ºC.
